SKIING & SNOW BOARDINGCat skiing the Canadian Rockies at Island Lake is an unbelievable experience! It's one of life's "must do's" for every avid skier and rider. Three, four or seven days of untouched powder, with no crowds, just you and 11 friends ripping it up. There are over 7000 acres of bowls, steeps and glades covered in deep dry Rocky Mountains powder. Imagine your favorite resort, covered in 2 feet of fresh powder, and closed to all but you and your 11 friends! With 200 man days spent glading ski runs this summer and thanks to additional terrain from our new tenure extension tripling the skiing on the backside of Mt Fernie, first timers and veterans can look forward to skiing new & improved runs such as Left Hook and Telefun. ![]() Everyday starts with a hearty breakfast and a stretch class (optional). On your first day, you'll be introduced to the use of the Barryvox Avalanche Transceiver and our avalanche safety practices. Then it's time to board the snowcat and begin the climb to your first run… only minutes away. On the following days, skiing starts at 9am and the last run gets you back to the lodge by 4pm. You'll normally ski 10 to 15 runs per day, approximately 12,000 and 15,000 vertical feet. Skiing is followed by après cat-ski at the Bear Lodge. What better way to end your skiing day than with hot soup, fresh bread and your favorite beverage. Enjoy a hot tub or massage before dinner in the Tamarack at 7pm. We are proud to offer our guests the use of our powder skis, snowboards and telemark skis at no extra charge. Skiers can enjoy the K2 Apache Chiefs and Phat Luvs. ![]() Trails around Island Lake Resort are groomed and track set for non cat skiing guests and those that have the energy to cross-country ski after cat skiing. Cross country skis and boots are now available for our guests. Island Lake Cat skiing sets the pace with the latest snowcat technology from Pisten Bully. Powered by a Mercedes Benz engine, The Edge Pisten Bully snow cat whisks us to the top of unimaginable places with incredible speed and comfort. While riding in our brand new cabs, guests can enjoy their favorite tunes because each cab can recieve FM signals from iPods equipped with the iTrip adapters. For the last two decades, the name Island Lake Lodge has been synonymous with legendary powder. Seth Morrison and Kent Krietler stated "Island Lake was the deepest, driest powder I've ever skied". |
